Strengths:
Set a Newmarket course record for one-mile (1:34 flat) upon his reappearance from a one-year hiatus, displaying that he could get back to his Group 1 form. Extremely competitive at the very highest levels in Europe, he’s faced the best competition that continent has to offer. He placed in the Epsom and Irish Derbies before stepping up and proving himself against elders in ’07.
Weaknesses:
A fractured pelvis suffered last winter sidelined him from action the bulk of 2008. He comes into the Breeders’ Cup light on preparation. Jockey Kevin Shea reportedly after Eagle Mountain’s comeback attempt was not keen on tossing him to the Breeders’ Cup rigors. From more of a miler’s family, his running lines also suggest that he’s likely at his best from eight to 10 furlongs, though still a legitimate force at 12.
NOTE:
Stats include North American and selected international races.
