    Born: July 28, 1958, in Ravenna, Ohio
    Resident: Union, Ky.

    Family: wife Melinda (Mindy), a former jockey, and son Austin, 7.

    Quick facts about Tony D'Amico:
  • Made his Breeders' Cup debut in 2001, finishing second on Repent in the Juvenile and sixth on Take Charge Lady in the Juvenile Fillies.
  • D'Amico calls his 2002 victories with Take Charge Lady in the Ashland Stakes and Repent in the Risen Star Stakes his best moments in racing. “I'lI keep getting fired off them, though,” he said in reference to his replacement by bigger-named riders when the stakes got larger.
  • Has earned riding titles at Thistledown, Beulah Park, River Downs, Turfway Park and Ellis Park.
  • Followed his stepfather, Thistledown trainer Hugh Mahan, into racing. When he was in high school, he got permission to work at Thistledown in the morning and then go to classes. His work included exercising horses ... Got his jockey's license in 1974 and began riding at Thistledown ... Moved on to Kentucky about 1983.
