- Professional Background: Uncle is legendary English trainer Henry Cecil, a twin brother of Ben's father.
- Racing Career: Began in racing right out of high school by working for Colin Hayes in Australia ... Moved along to serve as assistant to Mark Tompkins and Ian Balding in his native England before coming to the United States where he served as an assistant to Gary Jones before signing on with the ill-fated Rodney Rash ... While with Jones, helped prepare Best Pal and Stuka to win the Santa Anita Handicap in 1992 and ’94, respectively, and then helped condition Urgent Request to win the Big Cap for Rash ... Took over Rash's 33-horse stable when Rash died unexpectedly and scored his first G1 victory when Celtic Ash captured the Pan American Handicap at Gulfstream Park just three days after taking out his trainer's license ... Other G1 wins have been scored by trainees Donna Viola, Squeak and Golden Apples. The last named won the Del Mar Oaks in 2001 shortly after arriving in Cecil's barn from Europe ... Golden Apples won the 2002 Eclipse Award as best female grass runner after winning the Beverly D. and the Yellow Ribbon, both G1 events ... She finished fourth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 2002, one of five Cecil runners on the championship days and the highest finisher, along with ’98 Mile runner Magellan, who also was fourth ... Among other stakes winners: Queenie Belle, Falcon Flight, Worldy, Hal's Pal, Sandtrap, Gold and Steel, Dernier Empereur and Passinetti ... Purse earnings for 2008: $1.1 million. ... Tops among his runners in 2009 is Ferneley (Ire), winner of the G2 Del Mar Mile Handicap and runner-up in the G1 Woodbine Mile to Ventura. Althought requiring a supplement, Ferneley is pointed for the Breeders' Cup Mile. .. Also with a Breeders' Cup entry is Elusive Galaxy (Ire), in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. She began her career in Ireland, then Triple B Farms and Three Chimneys purchased her privately. Cecil took over the training from Gerard Lyons in late September 2009, after her fourth-place finish in the Natalma Stakes (G3). ... Through Oct. 26, 2009, Cecil runners had earned $1,229,623 with 15 wins from 112 starts. Additional stakes winners in 2009 were Waveline, and Restless Soul.
