- Education: Graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in marketing
- Racing Background: He began walking hots for Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg in high school … After graduating from LSU, he worked for trainer Frank Brothers in Louisiana. He then spent a year as a veterinary assistant before returning to the barn as an assistant to Larry Robideaux and John Parisella, the latter in New York ... Went on his own in 1987 at the age of 25, saddling his first winner, Prize Dream, at Sportsman’s Park … Has worked as a TV analyst for ESPN2’s “2Day at the Races” program and for various programs on TVG, including their popular "Works" specials prior to the Breeders' Cup and Kentucky Derby
- Racing Career: His stable competes nationally but is based primarily at Churchill Downs and Fair Grounds … Stable of 50 runners is split between Churchill Downs and Arlington Park during the summer and early fall of the year … Has won over 300 races at Churchill Downs and exactly 800 at Fair Grounds going into the 2009-10 meet ... Longtime assistant is Frank Bernis … He has been leading trainer in his native New Orleans, winning eight leading trainer titles at Fair Grounds … Inducted into the Fair Grounds Hall of Fame in 1999 … Also has had great success at Louisiana Downs, saddling the one-two-three finishers in Louisiana Downs stakes races three times during the early 1990s … Also has been leading trainer at Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs and Churchill Downs … Registered his first graded stakes winner in 1992 when Jarraar scored in the New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds ... Career highlighted by multiple grade 1 winner Heritage of Gold, a $2.3-million-earning mare who won the G1 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn, and G1 Go for Wand at Saratoga in 2000 ... Other stakes winners include graded winners Dernier Croise, Finally Here, Hattiesburg, Hoh Dear, Hot Wells, Lakeshore Road, Link, Lone Star Sky, Marastani, Miss Lodi, No Jacket Required, Royal Spy, Rush Bay, Sky Blue Pink, Baghdaria and Williams News ... Breeders' Cup starters: Heritage of Gold (3rd, both in the 1999 and ’00 Distaff), Lone Star Sky (12th, 2002 Juvenile), Williams News (13th, 2000 Turf), Bagdharia (7th, 2006 Distaff), Rush Bay (4th, 2006 Turf) ... Current Breeders' Cup Juvenile hopeful Backtalk gave Amoss his second G3 Bashford Manor winner (along with Lone Star Sky in 2002) ... Although he said he tries not to get attached to his horses, he said “there is a place in my heart” for Heritage of Gold, Rush Bay, Williams News, and multiple stakes winner Fly Cry. “The smartest ones touch me the most.” ... Lost New Orleans home when Hurricane Katrina hit and relocated to his Louisville residence. The hurricane caused him to split stable between Louisiana Downs and Oaklawn Park in 2005-'06 season instead of being at his customary Fair Grounds winter base. “Like my wife said, we were fortunate to have had other options.” … Enjoys golfing once a week "if I am lucky." … Other hobbies are reading and working out at the gym ... As of Oct. 8, 2009, Amoss has won 2,208 races and earnings of $55.7 million ... April 29, 2008, attained milestone of saddling his 2,000th career winner, Cat Splendor, at Churchill Downs.
