Track History and Fun Facts: Monmouth conducted its inaugural race card on July 19, 1946. . . it's the third track in the 'Jersey Shore area to bear the name--the other two operated during the 19th century. . . Hall of Famers Ted Atkinson, Sam Boulmetis, Bill Hartack, Jimmy Stout, Walter Blum, Steve Brooks, and Jorge Velasquez have all accounted for one of more riding titles at Monmouth. . . track has a one-mile dirt oval, and a seven-furlong grass course (with a chute that stretches across the infield). . . picnic area has chairs and tables with awnings, and a children's playground, and is adjacent to the upper stretch. . . Haskell Invitational is one of the premier race events on the East Coast; in 1987, only a pair of necks separated Bet Twice, Alysheba, and Lost Code at the wire. . .United Nations Handicap, a turf fixture at Atlantic City for four decades, will be run at Monmouth commencing in 1999. . . children ages 12 and under are admitted free at Monmouth; senior citizens admitted for half-price.
