There was common theme to the day at Churchill Downs for the 139th running of the Kentucky Oaks: it was all about the LADIES! Covered in pink, Churchill Downs was the perfect setting for a day of racing.
The ABRV Team started early in the infield with the filming of “ABR Live!” We had the perfect backdrop. The famed Twin Spires were a focal point for the team, but there was more to it than that. The atmosphere filling the infield for what I am sure had been the whole week leading up to the Derby was now bursting at the seams.
As the masses made their way through the tunnel the sun came out and we prepared ourselves for the long day ahead. We’ve known all along how popular free swag can be, but Oaks Day is full proof of that theory. A pink clad crowd soon surrounded the ABRV and we were dishing out jockey goggles, t shirts, and koozies left and right, all the while spreading the good gospel that is horse racing.
Everyone was interested in the ABRV and it’s mission to promote the sport of horse racing. So many people seemed enthralled by the idea that amazing events like the Derby happen year round at amazing venues. The common comment, “You mean to tell me that I can have this much fun at other races?” With pleasure, all Ambassadors responded with a resounding, “YES!” Most people already love the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, but now people are excited about horse racing across the country!
The Ambassadors had a whirlwind day at the Oaks. We marked it off our list as a successful and very pink day. Where we all failed, however? Not a single Ambassador placed a bet on Princess of Sylmar!
