Royal Delta made easy work of the field in the Delaware Handicap, winning the race for the second time (Photos courtesy Eclipse Sportswire).

Silencing her critics, Royal Delta rebounded from two bad races to defend her title in the $750,000 Delaware Handicap on Saturday.

Royal Delta took the lead out of the gate and only saw another horse for a few moments right out of the gate when She’s All In stuck with her for a brief period. But the champion waved goodbye to the field shortly after that, drawing farther away from the field at each call.

Royal Delta raced under the wire in a time of 2:02.00 for the 1 1/4 miles while geared down by jockey Mike Smith. The interesting battle came for the second spot but in the end, it was Royal Delta with a 10 3/4 length win over She’s All In with And Why Not rounding out the top three finishers.

Royal Delta had two bad races prior to the Delaware Handicap, finishing a non-threatening second in her last start after returning from the Dubai World Cup, where she finished 10th. If all goes according to plan, Royal Delta will be aimed for a third Breeders’ Cup appearance. She has won both of her starts in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic.
