Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner American Pharoah, owned by Ahmed Zayat and his son Justin won the Belmont Stakes, and was crowned the Triple Crown champion, breaking a 37-year old draught and becoming the 12th Triple Crown winner. Trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and ridden by Victor Espinoza the bay three-year-old colt by Piononeerof the Nile won by 5 1/2 lengths before a roaring crowd of 90,000 fans.
