Noted neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Fager died at the age of 90 at his home in Wellesley, MA. Trainer John Nerud, a former patient of the doctor, was inspired in 1964 to name a yearling after the doctor who saved his life. Dr. Fager, the horse, became Horse of the Year, champion sprinter, champion grass horse and champion handicap horse of 1968.
