- 1924 The inaugural Raceland Derby was held at Raceland, a racetrack near Ashland, KY. Black Gold, winner of the 1924 Kentucky Derby, finished third to winner Bob Tail. Raceland, nicknamed the "Million Dollar Oval", held summer meets and the Raceland Derby from 1924-1928 before permanently closing.
