Hall of Fame trainer King Leatherbury died at his home at age 92. During a career that began in 1958 and ended upon his retirement in 2023, Leatherbury horses won 6,508 races and more than $64 million in purse money. Affectionately known as “King of the Claimers”, Leatherbury trained Grade 1 winners Catatonic and Taking Risks, as well as the popular Ben’s Cat, a winner of 25 stakes races, that he bred and owned.
