BIPARTISAN HORSE PAC®-SUPPORTED CANDIDATES HAVE STRONG SHOWING ON ELECTION DAY

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Thursday, November 8, 2018) – The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) today announced that 44 of the 48 federal candidates it supported through the bipartisan political action committee, Horse PAC®,  during the 2017/2018 election cycle won their races on Tuesday.

Horse PAC® supported candidates drawn from 18 states, including 42 members of the U.S. House of Representatives (22 Democrats and 20 Republicans) and six Senators (five Democrats/one Republication). Overall, 91.6 percent of Horse PAC®-supported candidates won their re-election bids.

Horse PAC® has disbursed nearly $400,000 to candidates thus far during the two-year congressional cycle through direct contributions to individual candidates’ re-election campaigns and to leadership and other PACs supporting both Democratic and Republican candidates.

“The NTRA has enjoyed a number of successes in Washington in recent years including the modernization of tax withholding and reporting that has put tens of millions of dollars back in the hands of horseplayers and federal tax reform that has stimulated new investment in Thoroughbred bloodstock,” said Alex Waldrop, NTRA President and CEO.  “Horse PAC® remains an important tool in our NTRA legislative tool box as we work with elected officials to further the equine economy.”

Horse PAC® supports candidates who serve on the committees that oversee livestock and agricultural issues, Internet gaming, sports betting, taxation, immigration and the Interstate Horseracing Act; serve in leadership roles; understand horse racing’s issues; have racetracks, OTBs, ADW facilities, breeding farms, training centers or other equine venues in their states; are members of the Congressional Horse Caucus; or are emerging leaders meriting early support in their legislative careers.

Horse PAC® has raised more than $4 million since its inception in 2002. For more information visit www.SupportHorseRacing.org.
