CALIFORNIA CHROME REMAINS IN FIRST PLACE WITH ALL 40-FIRST-PLACE VOTES IN THE NTRA TOP THOROUGHBRED POLL
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (Monday, September 12, 2016) – California Chrome the leading Thoroughbred in North America with earnings over $13 million continues to remain in first-place in this week’s NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll. The all-time leading money earner in the U.S., California Chrome has led the poll for all 28 weeks of 2016 voting, clinching this week’s tally with all 40 first-place votes and 400 points overall.
The NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll is the sport’s most comprehensive survey of experts ranking active North American-based Thoroughbreds. Every week journalists and broadcasters cast votes for their top 10 horses, with points awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. The NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes Monday, November 7, following the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, which will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.
Racing across America had no impact on the NTRA top-ten rankings for the week ending on September 11. The Mark Casse trainee Tepin remains in second (323) with Flintshire in third (307) for trainer Chad Brown. It is anticipated that Flintshire’s next start could come in the Grade 1, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational on October 1 at Belmont Park
The undefeated 3-year-old filly Songbird, (275) with a perfect total career of ten starts with ten wins takes the fourth berth. The Eclipse Award champion could possibly make her next start in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing, September 24 while Frosted (211) remains fifth in the rankings.
Travers Stakes winner Arrogate (186) stays steady in sixth place followed by the three-time Eclipse Award champion Beholder (164) in seventh.
The remaining top 10 is rounded out by: Melatonin (57); Cavorting (50) and Nyquist (38).
