District: Kentucky’s 6th in Central and Eastern Kentucky – home to the city of Lexington, Keeneland Race Course, Fasig-Tipton Sale Company and hundreds of Thoroughbred farms.

Status: Elected as a freshman Congressman last November.  He took the oath of office on January 3, 2013.

Experience: Rep. Barr served as Legislative Assistant for U.S. Rep. Jim Talent, staffing then-Congressman (and future Senator) Talent’s participation on Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s Health Care Reform Task Force.

Key Committee: Rep. Barr serves on the House Financial Services Committee. This committee has jurisdiction over areas such as 1) Banks and banking; 2) International finance; 3) Money and credit; and 4) Securities and exchanges.  The House Financial Services Committee also oversees Internet gaming which is critical to the future of our industry.

Impact on horse racing industry: Rep. Barr was raised in Lexington, KY and earned his law degree at the University of Kentucky. As a native of the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky, Rep. Barr is keenly aware of the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
