The weekend’s Breeders’ Cup World Championship races provided drama on the track and a shakeup on the final Top Thoroughbred Poll rankings of 2014. Main Sequence, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf and three other Grade 1 races from four starts this year, gained the No. 1 ranking. Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Bayern jumped into position No. 2 while Classic third-place finisher California Chrome moved up to No. 3. Distaff winner Untapable is in the fourth position for the final poll while previous poll leader Shared Belief fell to No. 5 after a fourth-place finish in the Classic.
Wise Dan, who was removed from Breeders’ Cup consideration in October after sustaining an injury, slid to No. 6 but had five first-place votes to equal California Chrome in that respect. Rounding out the top 10, in order, are: Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents, Tonalist, Palace Malice and Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Work All Week.
