NTRA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

RESOLUTION COMMENDING

 ALEXANDER M. WALDROP

 

WHEREAS, Alexander M. Waldrop, President and Chief Executive Officer and a distinguished member of the Board of Directors of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) since 2006, is retiring as of December 31, 2021, ending his tenure of outstanding service to the organization and the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry;

WHEREAS, Alex descends from a family that settled in Western Kentucky in 1832 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Arts degree from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Juris Doctor degree (with High Distinction) from the University of Kentucky College of Law;

WHEREAS, Alex is a former partner in the Louisville, Ky., office of Wyatt Tarrant & Combs where he was the Chair of the firm’s Equine, Gaming & Entertainment Practice Group;

WHEREAS, Alex spent almost 13 years with Churchill Downs Incorporated as President and General Manager of Churchill Downs Racetrack from 1999 to 2002, as General Counsel from 1992 to 1998, and as Senior Vice President, Public Affairs from 2003 to 2004;

WHEREAS, Alex has led the Thoroughbred industry’s national office responsible for matters pertaining to federal legislative advocacy, racing safety and integrity, marketing and promotion of the sport, group purchasing and management of issues of national significance to Thoroughbred breeding and racing;

WHEREAS, Alex is President of NTRA’s Horse PAC, the industry’s federal political action committee in Washington, D.C., and other NTRA affiliates including NTRA Advantage, the NTRA Safety & Integrity Alliance and NTRA Charities;

WHEREAS, Alex is active in numerous industry and community organizations, including as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, Trustee of the American Horse Council, Chair of the American Horse Council Racing Advisory Committee, a Fellow of the American College of Equine Attorneys, an Associate Member of the International Masters of Gaming Law, a Member of the University  of Arizona Race Track Industry Program Board of Advisors and President of the Executive Board of the Blue Grass Council, Boy Scouts of America;

WHEREAS, Alex’s kindness, intelligence and judgment have enriched all of us fortunate enough to know and work with him;

WHEREAS, Alex’s personality and dedication have allowed him to forge consensus among diverse stakeholders as the racing and breeding industry and the NTRA have been confronted with numerous crises and challenges during his tenure;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the NTRA Board of Directors herewith expresses its sincere gratitude for Alex’s lasting contributions to the NTRA and for his numerous attainments that have had a profound and enduring impact on the entire Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the NTRA Board of Directors does hereby wish him well in all the years to come, and looks forward to his continued interest in and support of Thoroughbred breeding and racing;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be placed in the minutes of the Board and that copies be sent to appropriate officials and organizations in racing and to Alex Waldrop to share with family and friends.
