LEXINGTON, Ky. (September 9, 2019) With no Grade 1 races taking place this past weekend, there was relatively little movement in the top 10 of this week’s NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll.

Leading Horse of the Year candidate Bricks and Mortar has yet to be beaten in five starts this season and the son of Giant’s Causeway has been equally dominant in the NTRA poll since taking over the No. 1 positon on April 8. The Chad Brown-trained runner earned 33 first-place votes and 402 points to once again sit atop the rankings. Bricks and Mortar most recently captured the Grade 1 Arlington Million XXXVII Stakes on August 10, his fourth top-level win of 2019.

Just as Bricks and Mortar has not been bested this year, leading distaffer Midnight Bisou is also unblemished during her 4-year-old campaign. The daughter of Midnight Lute earned her sixth victory from as many starts this year when she nailed Elate at the wire in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga Race Course August 24 and continues to hold down the second spot in the NTRA Poll with 4 first-place votes and 342 points.

Bob Baffert trainee McKinzie, who most recently prevailed in the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes, remains third with 4 first-place votes and 322 points while fellow multiple Grade 1-winner Mitole is fourth with 270 points.

Sistercharlie (IRE), the reigning champion turf female, sits fifth with 255 points while the Jason Servis-trained World of Trouble (93 points) holds in the sixth position.

Grade 1 winner Imperial Hint is seventh with 82 points while Elate (81 points), Code of Honor (81), and Catalina Cruiser (78) round out the top 10.

The Top Thoroughbred Poll wraps up November 4 after the running of the Breeders’ Cup.

The NTRA Top Thoroughbred polls are the sport’s most comprehensive surveys of experts. Every week eligible journalists and broadcasters cast votes for their top 10 horses, with points awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. All horses that have raced in the U.S., are in training in the U.S., or are known to be pointing to a major event in the U.S. are eligible for the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll.
