The inaugural Breeders’ Cup was run at Hollywood Park. Wild Again, Gate Dancer and Slew o’ Gold were the Classic’s marquee horses. After a furious drive to the wire, Wild Again prevailed, but Gate Dancer was DQ’d from his 2nd place finish for interference and was placed 3rd, behind Slew o’ Gold.
