Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas died in his Louisville, Kentucky home at the age of 89. In his storied career Lukas won nearly 5,000 races, including 15 Triple Crown races (four in the Kentucky Derby), and five Eclipse Awards as the country’s top trainer. Affectionately known as Coach, Lukas was born in Antigo, Wisconsin and coached high school basketball there before embarking on his racehorse training career.
