TRACK SUPERINTENDENT’S CONFERENCE DRAWS MORE THAN 100 PARTICIPANTS

(Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) More than 100 individuals participated in the 15th annual Track Superintendent’s Field Day held at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville, Ind., June 12-14.

Organized by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), the three day conference drew attendees from around the world, including Dubai, Puerto Rico and England. A total of 48 tracks were represented at the conference which featured workshops and presentations on the latest technologies affecting maintenance of both turf and dirt courses. Field Day participants earn credit for the Safety Training and Continuing Education component of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance Code of Standards.

This was the first time in the 15-year history of the event that it was held in the state of Indiana. Indiana Grand track superintendent Roy Smith was a founding member of the conference and recalled that a goal of the founding members was to provide a venue for track superintendent’s to come together to share ideas and learn about new opportunities in the horse racing industry.

“The conference is about exchanging ideas to take home and reapply to your own program,” said Smith. “I’ve never left these meetings without taking something home.”

The 2017 Track Superintendent’s Field Day event will take place at Canterbury Park in Minnesota.
